Death of an engine.
To comply with "cash for clunkers" the engine is made to seize internally, by draining the oil from the crankcase and add a couple of quarts of water and "liquid glass". This plugs up oil galleys and causes bearings to fail. The end comes quickly. Witness:

Bailout, Jeep franchise
onight, after thirty years selling and servicing new Jeeps, the dealer I have been working for over six years will loose its Jeep franchise. No compensation, no payment for the tens of thousands of dollars in special tools forced upon by franchise agreement. All of the mandated training of dealer personnel is money lost.
Let's hope that the community organizer does not try to save your livelihood!

Problems in the City of Toledo
The City of Toledo, like most urban areas, has many budget problems to deal with. Much of this stems from the overall downturn in the world economy. A great deal of Toledo's trouble comes from decades of poor planning/management. Cutbacks in safety personnel; fire and police are seen as necessary to balance budgets. The current mayor has a great dislike for the Toledo Police, and I think he will make police cuts out of spite. One path that may be taken is to make the Lucas County Sheriff as the law enforcement agency for the city. This would make deputy sheriffs patrol and enforce the laws, the mayor would be relieved of a thorn in his side, and costs would be reduced substantially. This would not be a good choice, but somewhat of a "nuclear" option. Let's all hope and pray this never occurs!!

It has been reported by the Toledo Blade, one of America's Newspapers, that many non-union employees of the City of Toledo will we working 36 hour work weeks. If the city's business can be done with 10% less hours worked, it seems that the city was operating at less than full efficiency all along. If this can be sustained, what other cuts can be made?

US Air in Hudson river
The words "miracle" and "hero" have been used in describing the ditching of the Airbus in New York yesterday. The pilots are heroes, in every sense of the word. Miracle, however, is a bit much. The entire crew, flight attendants included did what they have been well trained for. After all, luck is when preparation meets opportunity!

How can the State of Ohio ban smoking in a private business and think it cannot ban smoking in State Prisons? This convoluted thinking boggles my mind. It is another instance of the "elite" thinking for the masses. They think they know what is good for us and we should just shut up, listen and do what we are told!
